Introduction

Welcome to the St Leonard’s College Snowsports Program.

St Leonard’s College Snowsports is conducted by the College Snowsports Coordinator/Team Manager. In addition, support and assistance is provided by staff and parents to run various activities.

Snowsports is an extra activity within the school and is focused primarily on introducing students to Snowsports and the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships (VISC) which is held at Mount Buller.

The VISC is organised and managed by the School Snowsports Development Foundation (SSDF), with the cooperation of the Mount Buller authorities and with the assistance from the participating schools and parents. Further information relating to the VISC can be found at http://www.interschools.org.au

There are no qualifying conditions for the VISC, however, qualifiers from the VISC then go onto compete at the Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships (AISC) which are held about two weeks later (mid September) at one of the major snow resorts (Perisher in 2010).

Parents may be required to act as Team Managers and Race Officials at the VISC, under the direction of the School’s Snowsports Coordinator/Team Manager.

The Friends of St Leonard’s Snowsports (FOSLS) has been established with St Leonard’s College as a support group for the development of snowsports and support of students participating in a number of activities, ie., the Primary and Secondary Development Camps, Championships Day, Grand Prix Events, VISC and AISC.

In 2008, the St Leonard’s Snowsports ‘Committee’ decided to introduce a membership component of the program which is open to students, past students, parents and guardians interested in snowsports.

Leadership roles (Co-Captains of Snowsports) are available to senior students (year 11 and year 12) within the St Leonard’s Snowsports Team. The Upper School Co-Captains for 2011 were Jack Marsh and Olivia Baenziger.

Students are recognised for their contribution to the sport under the School’s Sports Award system.

Students who participate in the Snowsports Program will comply with the Committee and School Code of Conduct. In addition, members are expected to observe and comply with the VISC, AISC and Grand Prix Events Competition Rules.

The College looks forward to speaking to prospective students and parents interested in joining the St Leonard’s College Snowsports Program.
